Misrepresenting Women
As I was looking the the Hip Hop culture book I saw a section that was titled "Has Hip-Hop Misrepresented Women". In it, it said that during the late 1980's and early 1990's the misrepresenting of women started to show up in the hip hop music. Including Luther Campbell's 2 Live Crew and Easy-E's NWA were two groups that were in the debate about explicit content in music and on the music videos. From the 1990's to the 2000's though it continued and got worse because more groups and solo artists were using women in their music as a sex icon. Calling themselves terms like " Pimp, mack daddy, and playa". As well as other names. Those are just names showing that they have power over women. The hollywood mantra "sex sells" is obviously a huge factor in the music and music videos that these rappers create. That has always been a factor in anything in hollywood though. So how has hip hop changed towards "sex sells"?
